PARENTS and students in Echuca-Moama will get the chance to see the career paths on offer at an information session next week.
St Joseph’s College is hosting the event at its Oak Centre on Wednesday between 6pm and 8pm, and is extending the invitation to parents from all schools in the area.
A range of industries, universities and TAFEs will be exhibiting at the session, including the Defence Force, Echuca Regional Health, Melbourne University and RMIT.
St Joseph’s careers co-ordinator Beth Crossman said it was the first time the school had held such an event aimed at parents.
‘‘I think there’s a real need for it in this area,’’ she said.
‘‘There’s a lot of kids who can’t go to all the university Open Days.
‘‘And this is not just for year 12s; it’s a chance for year 10s and 11s to talk to universities about courses and get information early, not late.
‘‘The more information we can give them, the better.’’
Ms Crossman said parents were welcome to come and go at any time during the two-hour session.
‘‘If they’re the parent of a student who doesn’t want to go to university, they have the flexibility to go in for 15 minutes, if they wish, and just speak to the employers or the TAFEs,’’ she said.
There is still an opportunity for local businesses to exhibit at the event and talk to students about employment opportunities.
