Students show off their swimming skills

EIGHT Mathoura students represented the region for swimming in Deniliquin last week.

Remi Baulch, Jesse Cheep, Alvin, Jemika and Shaleah Cooper, Luke and Marcus Moorse and Thomas Wippel qualified for the Deniliquin PSSA Swimming Carnival in Hay on Thursday.

From that, Alvin Cooper qualified for the Riverina Swimming Carnival, to be held in Albury on March 14.

It followed Mathoura Public School’s recent swimming carnival.

‘‘The incredible support from the school community, along with the wonderful sportsmanship displayed by students and high participation levels, resulted in a very successful day,’’ the school’s Janice Eddy said.

‘‘Parents, grandparents and relatives came along to watch and support the students and many were also involved with cooking and serving lunch or helping to run the carnival.’’

Age champions went to Marcus Moorse and Jemika Cooper (senior) and Luke Moorse, James Jachim and Remi Baulch (junior).

■Alvin Cooper and Marcus Moorse have also qualified for the Riverina Basketball Trials on March 15.
