Students prepare to become leaders

FUTURE LEADERS: 54 students from schools in the Gannawarra Shire attended the GRIP Student Leadership Conference in Bendigo earlier this month.

COHUNA Consolidated and Leitchville Primary were both represented at the GRIP Student Leadership Conference earlier this month.

Gannawarra Shire Council sponsored a large contingent of local primary school students and teaching staff to attend the conference on May 1 in Bendigo.

Mayor Brian Gibson said council had sponsored attendance at the GRIP Student Leadership Conference for a number of years and was proud to continue its history of supporting upper primary school students to develop leadership qualities.

“We are delighted that there was such a huge interest from our local primary schools in participating again this year,” he said.

“The conference provides an important training and networking opportunity for our students to build confidence for their leadership journey, both now and into the future.”

The conference is designed to provide students with a clear vision, a solid understanding and lots of ideas for their time as a student leader.

“A shire councillor will visit each of the participating schools later in the year to talk to the students about their experience,” Cr Gibson said.

“We want to hear from the students about how they have implemented their learnings and ideas from the GRIP conference into their school environment and how council can continue to support their leadership into the future.”
