STUDENTS at Echuca East Preschool are learning about the environment thanks to two new planter boxes.
The planters were made possible by a Campaspe Shire grant to support the students learning about sustainability.
Three and four-year-olds will be watering flowers and harvesting veggies in the near future, learning about how their food is produced, and how to conserve water.
“We’re trying to instil that knowledge from an early age and this grant helps us do that. Council were able to provide us with the grant to get these planter boxes, and it will really help our sustainability program,” Echuca East Preschool assistant educator Michelle Hall said.
‘‘Other parts of our program include a worm farm, composting and we’re also looking at possibly getting a water tank to catch rainwater for use outside and we have a new water trough in the sandpit that recycles the water.’’
The new planter boxes will become a part of the children’s learning in no time, with the soil to go in soon.
‘‘One of the planter boxes will be a flower garden and the other one will be our veggie garden,’’ Michelle said.
‘‘The kids just love it at the moment.’’
