Twin Rivers Primary welcomes new principal

By Jared Prestwidge

TWIN Rivers Primary has welcomed their new principal who will lead the school through the busy fourth term and oversee the preparation of next year’s curriculum.

Brea Terris, who began her teaching career in the western suburbs of Melbourne and recently served a two-and-a-half year principalship at Caledonian Primary in Brown Hill, said she couldn’t resist the opportunity of working in Echuca.

“I love Echuca, it’s a wonderful place to be,” she said.

“When I came in on Monday, I was made extremely welcome.”

Having described her approach as very hands-on, Ms Terris said she spent the majority of her first week sitting in on classrooms and acquainting herself with all members of the school.

“For me at the moment I’m ensuring that I’m developing relationships with students, staff, parents and the wider community as well,” she said.

“Just being in the classrooms and spending time with the students and the staff has been great.”

“I think principals are very much instructional leaders, so doing work with the staff and building capacity of staff is a huge part of my role and something I really enjoy.”

And while some may think the timing of Ms Terris’ appointment may be a little strange, she said the beginning of term four couldn’t be better.

“It’s really good timing because that’s when we do a lot of our strategic planning… whereas if I were to start in term one that work has already been done,” she said.

“So, we can really set our vision for next year.”
