Police thank community for patience with opening Barmah bridge

By Ivy Jensen

POLICE are thanking motorists crossing Barmah bridge for their patience.

The bridge, which is a checkpoint for emergency vehicles and local traffic travelling between NSW and Victoria, was reopened on Monday after community lobbying.

“The community has had a rough time with the hard closure due to staffing but since it re-opened, people have been so supportive,” Murray River Police District Inspector Paul Huggett said.

“We’ve had people coming with food and truckloads of firewood, which has been nice.

“We thank them for this and for their tolerance and patience. We are doing the best we can to keep the bridge open.”

● Motorists are encouraged to place their border permits and licences on the dashboard to ensure visibility and the smooth flow of traffic.
